Tailscale — Private Networks in a Flash!

What is tailscale? Tailscale allows you to create a Point-to-Point Virtual Private Network between as many computers as you need within minutes! Simply setup an account and install the software and you can communicate between computers instantly, without having to port forward and open your network up to attack.

I’ve used tailscale for about a year now for many different things such as allowing access for a Minecraft server for my son without having to open any ports. As well as remote management of computers at my parents house, across the country.

Lately I’ve been using it on my linux servers to harden services! Now instead of admin area ports open to the wide open internet I can lock down those ports to only be available from within the tailscale network.

Tailscale also allows for ssh directly over the tailscale network. So during provisioning I can simply run 1 command and instantly setup a VPS, install tailscale, and allow SSH all at once. Now in command line, all I need to do is “tailscale ssh adminusr@new-server” and boom I’m connected! No ports open to the world, no SSH keys to install and manage, no passords to remember. Just login and rock and roll!

With tailscale SSH there is no need to manage a bunch of SSH Keys over a bunch of servers, just simply install the tailscale app, login and done! Access to all servers within tailscale!

I highly recommend everyone try tailscale, it’s free and makes administrator life very easy!
